In health and social care, all service users (patients) have a right to accept or refuse treatment of medical intervention. This e-learning module has been developed to meet the learning outcomes and clinical standards in line with the Skills for Health UK Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) and is mandatory for all individuals working in a health care setting, regardless of their roles.
The reading material will describe the necessity to assess a patient’s capacity to give consent; factors to consider when obtaining consent; the rights of the patient to refuse treatment and the legal consequences of failing to obtain valid consent.
