COURSE DETAILS

This 3 day Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression Training is a mandatory requirement for any member of staff that works in a violent/ aggressive setting, particularly within a mental health environment.

This course explore the six stages of managing aggression and challenging behaviour, from understanding the causes of and reducing challenging behaviour, de-escalating aggressive behaviour, physical and non-physical defensive strategies, guiding techniques and control & restraint /safer-holding techniques.

This course has been developed in line with the GSA (General Services Association) standards and meets the requirements of the 2019 Restraint Reduction Network (RRN) Training Standards.

Our Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression Course is based around the Able’s Six Stage Target System which is an analytical process model based on the principles of Positive Behaviour Support and Trauma-informed Care. Every course will be focused on restraint reduction and apply a human rights approach.

The Able Target system aims to improve quality of life, care and support for individuals on a day to day basis but also improve an organisations culture of care, support and outcomes. It will improve staff competence, confidence and skills to enable them to keep the individuals they support, themselves and others safe. The six stage target model has been praised by numerous organisations as a positive, person centred system that staff can apply within everyday interactions to reduce behaviours of concern. It is also being utilised within organisations as an overall model for behavioural planning and analysis to create a positive environment and culture within the setting.
