The 2015/16 Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) estimated that 1.4% of working adults were victims of one or more violent incidents at work; 0.6% had been physically assaulted while they were working and 0.8% had suffered threats. This represents an estimated 350,000 workers who had experienced at least one incident of violence at work where 158,000 had been assaulted while they were working, and 210,000 had suffered threats.
The CSEW uses the term violence when referring to both physical assaults and verbal threats. Physical assaults also include assault with minor injury, assault without injury and wounding.
