Introduction

The aim of this module is to identify the requirements of a work role, implementing and adhering to the relevant standards, Codes of Conduct and Practice relevant to the learner’s duties and skills. You may not know what to do on the first day or what rights you have when starting work. It will explore the different aspects of starting your career in the health care/social care setting and discuss your duties, responsibilities, encourage you to explore their employer’s values, missions, objectives, ethos and to understand the importance of working to the standards and ways that are agreed by your employer.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this module, you should be able to:

  •  Describe your role at work, your responsibilities and be aware of the limitations of your role
  • Name any codes of conduct related to your role and discuss regulations set out by these codes of conduct or supervisory bodies
  • Understand the importance of sustaining amicable working partnerships with your colleagues and others within the work place
  • Explain the importance of professional development
  • Describe how professional development can be achieved through informal practices such as shadowing or mentoring, or through more formal development plans and appraisals
  • Explain why it is important to raise concerns
  • Describe the processes for raising concerns in your organisation
